Douglas G. Hope, DDS, FAGD

Dr. Douglas G. Hope is a southern California native. After growing up and attending high school in the Los Angeles/Orange County area, he attended the University of California at San Diego. At UCSD he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry. After working as a Chemist for a couple years in San Diego, Dr. Hope found his calling in Dentistry.

He continued his education by attending the University of California at San Francisco School of Dentistry. He graduated from UCSF in 1998, with the degree of Doctorate in Dental Surgery. Having now lived throughout California Dr. Hope knew San Diego was in his future and he attended another year of advanced dental studies with a General Practice Residency at the Veterans Hospital in La Jolla.

Dr. Hope was selected for one of only three positions that were open to graduating dentists applying throughout the entire United States. There he learned advanced techniques on how to restore complex and extremely difficult restorative and prosthetic cases, work with and manage medically compromised patients, and was trained one on one with several dental specialists.

Dr. Hope’s philosophy is patient centered. He believes every patient deserves the option of having the best and most advanced dental care possible. He feels every patient needs to be involved in their own dental care and that cannot happen without being fully educated in the process. By explaining and educating patients about their oral health Dr. Hope instantly creates a team of the patient and himself in deciding the best route of their dental care.

To deliver the best dental care possible a dentist has to be fully committed to continuing education. With the amazing and tremendous amount of new technology and techniques in Dentistry today, what is being taught in Dental Schools across the country is nearly outdated by the time a student graduates. Continuing education is the lifeblood of any dentist who is delivering the most advanced dental care.

Last year Dr. Hope completed more hours of continuing education than most dentists complete in 5-6 years. He averages over 100 hours of continuing education every year. He has been awarded with the prestigious title of Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD). This is a feat most dentists never complete in their entire career. By taking courses taught by some of the leaders in dentistry today, Dr. Hope has learned from some of the most respected clinicians in modern dentistry.

Most of Dr. Hope’s clinical focus over the past 4 years has been devoted to cosmetic and functional restorative dentistry. He has taken multiple "hands on" courses at the world famous Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). LVI is thought by many to be the world’s premiere dental institute for higher learning. Dr. Hope is also affiliated with many dental organizations including the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedations (DOCS), the American Dental Association (ADA), the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), the California Dental Association, and the San Diego County Dental Society.
