Periodontal Therapy
The gums and bone surrounding your teeth are the foundation upon which everything is built. It is like the foundation to a home. The proper care and maintenance of your gums is critical in their health. Recent studies have found that 75-80% of the United States population has some form of disease or infection of their gums.
In the past the dental community almost accepted as fact the observation that patients gums bleed and that is the way it should be. Typically if a patient was diagnosed with gum disease or periodontal disease they were put through 2-4 visits of deep cleaning. While improvements were often seen, many times there was persistent infection and bleeding of the gums after this treatment. The patient was then often referred to a gum specialist or periodontist where they would get their gums cut down with surgery. This tends to be very uncomfortable and can be quite expensive.
